Aided systems to assist with
communication including pictures and
speech generating devices
A swallowing disorder, known as
dysphagia, may occur as a result of various
medical conditions
drooling
food or liquid remaining in the oral
cavity after the swallow
food and/or liquids leaking from the
oral cavity
wet or gurgly sounding voice during or
after eating or drinking
coughing during or right after eating
or drinking
recurring aspiration
pneumonia/respiratory infection
and/or fever
weight loss or dehydration from not
being able to eat enough.
Dysfluent speech, called stuttering or stammering, can be present across the lifespan and can present differently between individuals
