Swallowing
A swallowing disorder, known as
dysphagia, may occur as a result of various
medical conditions
- Signs of dysphagia may include
drooling
food or liquid remaining in the oral
cavity after the swallow
food and/or liquids leaking from the
oral cavity
wet or gurgly sounding voice during or
after eating or drinking
coughing during or right after eating
or drinking
recurring aspiration
pneumonia/respiratory infection
and/or fever
weight loss or dehydration from not
being able to eat enough.
Stuttering
Dysfluent speech, called stuttering or stammering, can be present across the lifespan and can present differently between individuals
- Stuttering may be present from childhood, called developmental stuttering
- Stuttering may also be acquired and may be considered neurogenic, psychogenic, or drug-induced
