2025 Speech Pathology Week – Impact through Communication

Published by sydneyadmin on

During August 24th – August 30th, Speech Pathology Week 2025 was celebrated across Australia. This year’s theme, ‘Impact through Communication,’ highlights the many ways that communication changes lives. As speech pathologists, it is our passion to support individuals to connect with the impact of communication in a way that reflects them.

An estimated 1.2 million Australians need support with communication. Here at HAHAUS, we are privileged to support Tasmanians and Sydneysiders with their communication and swallowing goals in the adult space. Working across areas including Parkinson’s Disease, stuttering, voice, and motor speech, we love the diversity and individuality each patient brings to the clinic sessions and the continual learning we do as part of our role.

Speech Pathology Week prompted the team here to reflect on what they love most about working as a speech pathologist.

“Creating a relationship with your community and being able to support them on a journey in an active, functional way is so rewarding,” Jennifer said.

“What I also love about my job is being part of a team that is being driven by a patient’s goals and giving them the opportunity to be heard,” she continued.

“My favourite part of therapy is working out how to make the sessions individualised for the person and their interests. I find it is the quickest way to getting to know someone while making the sessions enjoyable for the patient,” Emily said.

“Not only this – when the session activities are shaped to suit the individual, this results in more functional gains in their daily lives. There is the added bonus that I get to learn about a tonne of different topics and have the joy of hearing my patients speak about them with passion.”

At HAHAUS, we believe communication is powerful. It is what makes us human, and for that alone, it is worth caring about. We are grateful to work in a profession made up of people who prioritise connection with others and feel privileged to witness the impact communication can have on lives every day that we come to work.
